About Johanna Stein

I am an Emmy-nominated Writer/Producer/Director/Actor/Animation Showrunner/Slash Overuser.

I was born in Winnipeg, Canada, to a pair of American hippie intellectuals who smoked cannabis on the daily. As a result, I am a dual US/Canadian citizen who is pathologically easygoing.

I’ve acted in some movies: William Shatner pulled a gun on me, and David Lynch told me that my character was so creepy because “well heck, she’s probably hiding something!”).

I went viral when my video “MomHead” landed me on The Today Show, The Doctors, on the front page of CNN, and on news outlets all over the world (in other countries I am known as “Cabeza de Mamá”, “La tête de la mère”, and “母亲的头”).

My first stab at directing was “Sorority Sluts 3: Spring Break! (The Outtakes)”, a PG rated comedy about XXX-rated film which played and offended at film festivals around the world. My second stab,  “We’re With the Band”, was a pilot for Comedy Central, featuring Alanis Morissette.

I wrote, produced, and directed three comedic PSA’s about sexual assault (yes, really) which have been seen millions of times, in numerous languages. You can watch the English versions here.

If you are a parent to a young child, chances are that I have written, produced, developed, or provided a voice for at least one animated show that has been over-played in your household (ps: I’m sorry).

I’m a proud union member of the DGA, the WGA (and its shy Canadian cousin, the WGC), SAG- AFTRA, and The Animation Guild.

I am married to the 2nd greatest human on the planet (the greatest is the guy who invented this). I am also ridiculously proud of my daughter, who, despite my guilt over having had many sips of beer while pregnant, has not turned out to be a jerk.
